It all began on social media; I accidentally stumbled on a mentorship program and applied immediately. Weeks later, I received an sms stating that I was shortlisted for the "MentorMe4Success Program" and I thought to myself this is an opportunity to explore and learn. A few weeks into the program I became so engrossed and passionate that I always looked forward to our presentations.

Over the course of the program, I gained so much exposure in different areas. I did a lot of research to ensure that our group and individual presentation was top notch. The group activities, mentoring sessions and trainings forced me to become knowledgeable about content writing, search engine optimization, macro and micro economic analysis, time management, people management amongst other topics.

At around the same period I applied for an intern position in a top accounting firm. We went through series of tests and the exposure I had gained from the MentorMe4Success Program helped ensure my success throughout the interview process.

... I say a very big THANK YOU to all our mentors for helping me achieve my dream.

Opportunity to work with Iconic Award Winning Singer

The mentorship session begun with a podcast and I research on almost every aspect of digital job opportunities mentioned in the podcast. Then came the second podcast on content marketing after listening to it and doing a little research I went for my interview. Let me briefly state that I am building a career in digital music marketing & promotion.  On Monday morning I had an appointment with an Iconic and multiple awards winning singer.

So here was he seated and after listening to my pitch he called his Manager and media guy. I repeated my pitch and the media guy said that all I had to offer had already been covered by the company but the one thing that got his attention was "Content Marketing'’. He said they needed consistent content development and boom! I started dishing out ideas based on the insight from the podcast and further research relevant to the music industry.

Well I got the Job as a Social Media Strategist and Image/Brand Developer. Straight away I got to work. That's just the second week of the mentorship Program. The mentorship program is guiding me all the way. Its simply amazing and I'm deeply grateful to all the mentors for this initiative . You just helped make my dream come through. God Bless you all.

Improving my Leadership Capacity

My leadership experience during the MentorMe4Success program helped me in securing jobs along my area of interest. I remember vividly when the call to serve as a team-lead was made and no one in my group was willing to volunteer and how I jumped at the opportunity without even thinking twice. Even though I later realized why my team members were reluctant to lead- it was a lot of work.

Looking back now I am really grateful for not turning down that opportunity. Despite my experiences in other leadership positions, I must confess that serving as a team-lead in my group on the MentorrMe4Success program was one of a kind experience.

It was my first time of leading a virtual team and it was a lot different and really tested my people skills. The MM4S program really helped me to sharpen my interpersonal skills, research skills, thinking ability and indeed my willingness to develop others.

Thanks to MM4S Initiative!

Got a Job in a Consulting Firm

I went for the interview and was asked series of questions - From the generic tell us about yourself kind of questions to business development questions like 'Sell me this pen'.

Before that, we had a screening test. Since it's a consulting firm, they asked me “You might be sent to a client to oversee the affairs and you need to be monitored remotely how do you handle it.

Then I remembered my experience on MentorMe4Success program. MentorMe4Success is a remote program, so I could easily relate. Ideas was just popping (come and see as your boy was flowing, I scattered them with English. The Managing Consultant categorically told me my *HR Intern* as displayed in that CV wasn't an experience.

To me, I thought I was out until the following week when I received a mail to come for a second interview with the management. I was also asked to come with an updated CV. Then the second CV came into play (with MentorMe4Success HR Officer experience). So. I guess this won it for me. I was offered the position on the spot.

Lesson learnt:  It depends on how you channel your MentorMe4Success experience.

The weekly presentations helped me a lot in the test. Then updating my CV to reflect the role and responsibilities I perform in MentorMe4Success HR group now sealed it.
